Leaving Annaberg school house on our way to Maho
On Monday, Paw Paw FINALLY got to Paradise. We waited and waited, but he didn't know which ferry to get on. He took the people ferry from Charlotte Amalie and not the car ferry from Red Hook. That was fine, we still were glad to see him at about 6:00 at night. He played like he didn't see us on, but we think he saw us, because when we saw him and yelled "PAW PAW!!!" he looked at us right away. You know that paw paw can't hear very well. We ran so fast to him that we knocked him over as he knelt down to hug us. He was very happy.
Tuesday morning we got up at the crack of dawn and woke Paw Paw up at 6:31. Our mom doesn't let us leave our room until 6:30. He fixed us chocolate chip pancakes with Nutella in the batter. Then we played outside until it was school time at 9:00. At school, Paw Paw played tictactoe and checkers with Quinn and helped Walker with carrying during addition. Paw Paw tried to get Quinn to think about what might happen after he moved in tictactoe and checkers, but that didn't work too well, so Paw Paw just stomped him in both games. Walker seemed to pick up the carrying thing, and got 100% on the test that was graded by the toughest teacher of all, Michelle.
Paw Paw and Quinn played catch before lunch and Paw Paw Paw twirled the jump rope for Walker.
On Tuesday afternoon, we drove around St. John in dad's car so that Paw Paw could see stuff. We saw the same things that we see whenever someone visits us-giant termite houses, beautiful views, the cows, goats and chickens. There were a few times that we saw Paw Paw get a really white face when we were driving around. I think it was when a dump truck or a concrete truck was coming around the corner and he forgot that we drive on the left side of the road on St. John. Then other times he would smile when we were driving around when my mom would perform a particularly deft maneuver having to do with oncoming truck traffic and curvy roads. I think he was thinking about teaching my mom to drive on the hills in northern New Jersey. Mom made great fish tacos on Tuesday night. Paw Paw and Quinn played catch and Paw Paw Paw twirled the jump rope for Walker after dinner.
On Wednesday morning, Quinn got up before Walker did. Paw Paw, standing in the kitchen, saw Quinn running from his bedroom to the stairs to Paw Paw's room at 6:45. So he got up before Quinn on Wednesday, not that any one is keeping score. Walker had probably stayed up late reading in bed on Monday night, and didn't emerge until about 7:00. Paw Paw made us chocolate pancakes again and they were good again. Paw Paw and Quinn played catch and Paw Paw Paw twirled the jump rope for Walker before school. Wednesday at school we worked on our coin maps and Walker worked on reading. Quinn worked on his spelling. Mommy is a good teacher.
On Wednesday afternoon, we went to Annanberg Plantation and Annanberg School house before we wehMAHO, our favorite beach. Mommy and Quinn and Walker saw sea turtles, but Paw Paw didn't. We snorkeled with Paw Paw and saw lots of fish and plants and coral. Paw Paw that the sergeant major fish was called a zebra fish, and he thought that a flounder was called a camouflage fish. Walker and Quinn set him straight. We used the hand signals that Aunt Susie taught us. We think that Paw Paw thought that the hand signals for "OK" and "go to the surface" were the same. We would point out something and he would give us thumbs up, and not the OK sign. We figured it out, though, just like we figured out to talk loud. Wednesday afternoon later we went to the kids playtime at Coral Bay. They shot up rockets and we played soccer and Paw Paw and Quinn played catch. Paw Paw met a woman who wanted Duke to win and didn't know that they had already lost. They didn't talk after Paw Paw told her that Duke lost, and that Carolina didn't. We got pizza on Wednesday night. While we were waiting for the pizza, Paw Paw and Quinn played catch and Paw Paw Paw twirled the jump rope for Walker.

Thursday was a lot the same as Wednesday, except we didn't have chocolate chip pancakes because Quinn and Walker wanted cereal. Paw Paw was in the kitchen when Quinn and Walker got up on Thursday too. Walker probably stayed up late again reading on Wednesday night. Paw Paw remembered that his mom stayed up late to read and said that Walker should be named Walker Ruth Michelle Wicklund. Then he remembered that sometimes Maw Maw stays up late reading and said that Walker should be named Walker Ruth Michelle Maw Maw Wicklund. Then Paw Paw remembered all of the other people that he knows that like to stay up late reading and said that Walker was lucky that she liked to do that and that he would get her a night light. Paw Paw and Quinn played catch and Paw Paw Paw twirled the jump rope for Walker before school.
Thursday at school, Quinn learned how to spell his middle name. Paw Paw forgot that the attention span of a 5 year old is about three minutes and tried too hard on the currency drill. Then he went to learning how to spell "Tyler". Two minutes later, success!! Time to head for the beach.
We went to Salt Pond and visited the intertidal area where the snails and baby sea urchins are. There are some sharp rocks on the way, and Paw Paw's feet aren't as tough as ours are. But he made it. Then Walker and Paw Paw snorkeled to sea urchin city. Walker and Paw Paw got accidentally into a bad part of sea urchin city (shallow) so that the spines were about 2 feet from us. Walker realized that we were in danger and quickly got us to safety. Paw Paw took Quinn then to sea urchin city. Quinn had never been there before, and they managed to stay out of trouble. Then we hiked to Drunk Bay where people make stick figures out of washed up coral pieces. Paw Paw thinks that is the neatest thing, and is convinced that future SATs should include the analogy coral bay is to St. John as Durham is to: where RTP is the correct answer.

On Friday, we went shopping for groceries on St. Thomas. Paw Paw and Walker and Quinn went to Kokopelli and had pizza and Sprite. Paw Paw was mean because he wouldn't let us shoot spit balls through our straws. But he did let us put ice in the sprite cans, which our mother never lets us do. Then we drove around for hours on an empty gas tank on St. Thomas, then dropped Paw Paw off at the airport. Then we went home and took Roosie to the beach.
